“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.”
This quote has always had significant meaning to me. Although others take the position of thinking nobody really knows who they are, and will we ever find out? No, we all just go living our day to day lives in a blur of living with a complete stranger. As a child I was told to never speak to strangers, so why exactly would you let one fill your existance? In knowing thyself, I do not suggest understanding or knowing what your existance means, or finding “yourself” because as far as I’m concerned, you were never lost; You cannot lose your existance. The tangle of webs within your head continues to function, and never once turned off. Instead you were ignorant of your existance, ignorant of knowing who you were.
To know thyself means to know your strengths and your weaknesses. To know your limits, and your horizon. Because after all, self knowledge is the beginning of self improvement. Your existence is not static but in order to keep up you must self reflect. In knowing thyself, you can appreciate thyself, and in turn love thyself. So to some, what progress, you ask, have i made? I have begun to be a friend to myself.
